From October 5 to the 13th, fifty professionals and Marquesas Island experts united in the islands for a meeting on the islands’ nomination to the UNESCO World Heritage List. This process began in 1996, and the islands have been part of UNESCO’s Tentative World Heritage List since 2010. During this month’s meeting, a delegation organized by the Minister of Culture and the local cultural organization Motu Haka worked extensively to identify and select a collection of cultural and natural sites suitable for the nomination.
